Stop Kidding Yourself – My Top 5 Weight Loss Myths

I’ve been involved in the weight loss industry for 24 years, and in that time I’ve heard so many excuses for why people can’t lose weight, that I’ve decided to publish my top 5 favourites.
Perhaps you’ll find your favourite ‘excuse’ for being overweight in here……….

1. It’s my metabolism
In other words you’re not responsible – you’re a victim of something that has been handed down to you genetically.

2. I’ve got big bones.
Makes me laugh every time I hear it. In extremely rare cases this might be true, but it’s more often used as an excuse. A scientifically recognized measurement is your BMI or Body Mass Index. This is based more on measuring body fat and factoring in height and weight. Find your BMI by visiting this free weight loss BMI tool.

3. I’ve tried every weight loss program and nothing works.
Perhaps it’s you that’s not working. Just buying a product is not enough for many people. Look for weight loss programs which come with a support program, preferably an experienced person who will provide one-on-one follow up, guidance and mentoring.

4. My husband/wife/partner won’t support me.
Now I do appreciate that this can sometimes prove more difficult, especially for those who have said “I’m going on a diet” many times in the past it’s not easy to hear either. So if you don’t have to announce it, then don’t. Just get on with it as best you can and let the results do the talking.

5. I can’t afford to use a weight loss program.
You can’t afford not to. Remaining overweight is expensive and not just financially. Have you considered the ‘costs’ to your health? Billions of pounds per year are spent on weight loss products in the UK, but statistics show that we are not winning the battle of the bulge. In fact as a nation we’re eating ourselves to death according to the International Obesity Taskforce.
People in the U.K. have lost control of their weight in the last 20 years. Two-thirds of adults are overweight (BMI>25) and nearly one-third are obese
(BMI>30). Obesity may overtake smoking as the leading cause of preventable deaths.
